IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (1633) Chimay / TYC 1371-02343-1 event on 2012 Dec 12, 12:05 UT Visible from New Zealand, SE Australia Summary ------- On 2012 Dec 12 UT, the 36 km diameter asteroid (1633) Chimay will occult a 10.4 mag star in the constellation Gemini for observers along a path across New Zealand, SE Australia. In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 4.9 mag to 15.3 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 5.0 seconds. This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Alice Monet, TMO astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Bill Owen, historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: UCAC.
