IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (4543) Phoinix / TYC 0263-00142-1 event on 2012 Dec 23, 05:53 UT Visible from W Africa Summary ------- On 2012 Dec 23 UT, the 70 km diameter asteroid (4543) Phoinix will occult a 11.5 mag star in the constellation Leo for observers along a path across W Africa. In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 5.9 mag to 17.4 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 9.8 seconds. This update is based on historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: UCAC.
