IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (478) Tergeste / TYC 0748-01736-1 event on 2012 Dec 23, 07:13 UT Visible from Argentina, Chile Summary ------- On 2012 Dec 23 UT, the 86 km diameter asteroid (478) Tergeste will occult a 10.0 mag star in the constellation Monoceros for observers along a path across Argentina, Chile. In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 2.2 mag to 12.0 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 7.2 seconds. This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Alice Monet, TMO astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Bill Owen, historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: UCAC.
